About the New Media I. studio:

The New Media school was founded in 1991 as part of the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. From it’s beginning students were encouraged to work in experimentally creative ways, to use innovative concepts, philosophical discourse, inventions and also art that is made by non-electronic means and later transferred to analogue or digital media.
Today, the New Media I. studio of the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague has the characteristic of a laboratory in which the students have the opportunity to learn how to use technologies in artistic practice and also teaches them important advantages they will need to succeed in today’s complex artistic as well as information environment. Great value is placed on giving the students an awareness of the social and political responsibility which they as artists assume in their work.

The Study:

The New Media study is a six-year full-time education programme,  graduating students for the new media art with an MA diploma degree. For more information about the admission see http://avu.cz (http://avu.cz/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=114)
The main focus of the study is to educate people about fine arts with an emphasis on the art based on concept and new technologies. The whole course is project- and process-oriented and mixes academic and practical work throughout. It is based on doing practical projects and also on theoretical study and reflection of art and reality.

Lecturing programme:

Beside the prescribed courses by the Academy on history of art, contemporary art, architecture and philosophy we offer at times our students lectures and presentations by reputable personalities from Czech republic but also from all over the world.

External Projects

On a regular basis the New Media I. department is organizing screenings of students works, curated exhibitions, presentations and is also taking part to prestigious international festivals and competitions.
